Coleg Llandrillo's Rhyl Engineering Centre Welcomes Students to New State-of-the-Art Facility

Students have embarked on their studies at the newly opened Engineering Centre, a cutting-edge £13 million facility located at Coleg Llandrillo’s Rhyl campus.

Funded by the Welsh Government's Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme and Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, this multi-million development aims to equip people in the region with the skills required for prosperous careers within the field of engineering, including in the growing renewable energy industry.

The Rhyl Engineering Centre is a state-of-the-art, three-floor facility spanning 3000m², featuring a comprehensive range of highly specialised training equipment valued at over £2 million. From robotics & rapid prototyping to large industrial-scale metal-cutting CNC machines, the facility is equipped to offer a world-class learning experience.

A standout aspect of this transformative development is the establishment of a renewable energy technology training facility, a collaborative effort with the renowned international company RWE Renewables, known for managing numerous renewable energy sites across the UK. Notably, the centre boasts a distinctive industrial-scale wind turbine servicing and maintenance hall, showcasing the commitment to advancing renewable energy education and innovation.

A wide range of Engineering courses are delivered at the facility, including Degree level programmes, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Machining, Advanced Manufacturing, Robotics, Automation, Wind Turbine and Control & Instrumentation.

Coleg Llandrillo's Rhyl Engineering Centre is poised to become a hub for excellence in engineering education, providing a conducive environment for students to explore, learn, and apply their skills in real-world scenarios. The facility aims to address the growing demand for skilled professionals in the engineering sector, as noted by the North Wales Regional Skills Partnership.

Dafydd Evans, Chief Executive at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, said,

"The Rhyl Engineering Centre stands as a testament to our commitment to fostering a new generation of skilled engineers and supporting the regeneration of the Rhyl region. This investment is very much in line with our Strategic Plan in which sustainability is a key theme."

Lawrence Wood, Principal of Coleg Llandrillo, said,

“I am very proud of what we have achieved here at our Coleg Llandrillo Rhyl Campus. It is important now that we all make the most of this investment in Rhyl and what the centre has to offer.
