Dolgellau Beauty Therapy Students Take Part in Community Health Event

As part of a community health event in Dolgellau recently, Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor’s Beauty Therapy students provided a range of nail treatments for the area’s residents.

The event at Glan Wnion Leisure Centre consisted of over 30 local and national organisations offering a wide range of health and care and well-being services.

It was a free event which included an information sharing service, health screening, blood pressure testing, alternative therapies, chair yoga and much more.

The college’s Level 2 Beauty Therapy students provided mini manicures and sold raffle tickets. The prize was a gift voucher worth £10 to spend on beauty therapy treatments in the college salon. Overall, £38.60 was raised, which will be donated to the charity Mind.

Jill Renshaw, lecturer in Beauty Therapy at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor, Dolgellau said: “It was very nice to be part of this event. The field of beauty and well-being therapy is a blossoming sector, so it is important that we give our students these kinds of opportunities."

She added: “It was nice to see our students chatting naturally with new customers, in a way that is sure to raise the profiles of both our department, and the college itself. Having the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in the real world is important, as it will prepare them for the world of work and employment after college."
