Engineering Students Make National Robotics Skills Final

Coleg Menai is delighted to announce that four of its learners who are studying Engineering at its Llangefni campus have made it to the first ever Industrial Robotics’ final at Skills Competition Wales.

The four talented Robotics' students are James Hamblin from Holyhead, Cai Jones from Bethesda, Lance Reynolds from Holyhead and Axl Davies from Bodorgan.

Skills Competition Wales aims to raise the profile of skills in Wales and offers students, trainees and apprentices in Wales a chance to challenge, benchmark and raise their skills by taking part in competitions across a range of sectors.

Funded by the Welsh Government and run by a dedicated network of colleges, work-based learning providers and employer-led organisations, it consists of a series of local skills competitions, aligned to WorldSkills and the needs of the Welsh economy.

Mac Jones, College Menai Engineering lecturer and competition organiser, said: "I am very excited to see the robotics competition being run for the first time in Wales. It is a chance for the students to showcase their skills in a competitive environment.

‘We are proud of our learners' success so far. They are hard-working learners who want to develop their skills and have taken to robotics with ease.”

Arron Peel, Coleg Menai’s deputy manager for Engineering, added: “‘What an opportunity for our students. They have been training on our state-of-the-art Fanuc robots, and are now the first students in Wales to compete in the Industrial Robotics final.

“We also are lucky to have Mac Jones leading the robotics sector in Wales, delivering the qualification here at the college’s Llangefni campus. What an amazing opportunity we are giving to our learners.” Grŵp Llandrillo Menai helped to develop the competition nationally.
