Former student returns to cooks up a storm on the Great British Menu!

A former Hospitality and Catering student from Coleg Menai dedicated to celebrating Welsh produce on his menus has once again been chosen to represent Wales in the BBC's hit cookery competition, the 'Great British Menu'.

Of all the cookery competitions on our screens, Great British Menu is arguably the crème de la crème. Every year, the series boasts a line-up of contestants comprising the nation's most exciting chefs, with the recent edition being no exception.

Competing for a second time, is Head Chef and Director at the Michelin-starred Beach House Restaurant on the Gower Peninsula, Hywel Griffith, who began his journey at Coleg Menai's Hospitality and Catering department in Bangor before heading to work at the Lanesborough Hotel in London. Since then, he has worked alongside prominent chefs including Simon Radley at The Chester Grosvenor, Shane Hughes at Ynyshir Hall, Paul Heathcote at Longridge Restaurant and Steven Smith at Freemasons.

On the last series, Hywel represented Wales in the final week of the competition as one of eight finalists, whom competed to get a dish to the final banquet.

The 2021 series of Great British Menu started last night (Wednesday 24 March) on BBC Two. There will be three episodes a week for eight weeks, covering each regional heat before the finals week culminating in the Banquet.

We wish Hywel all the best in the latest series!
