Hannah raises more than £1,000 for PoTS UK
The Coleg Llandrillo music student organised a charity concert after being diagnosed with a little-known but life-changing condition
Coleg Llandrillo student Hannah Popey raised more than £1,000 for PoTS UK by holding a charity concert.
The 18-year-old organised a night of music and entertainment in aid of the charity, which supports people with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome.
Musician Hannah was recently diagnosed with the condition, after six years struggling with illness which led to her being home-schooled.
Her heart rate can increase rapidly at any time, even after getting up from sitting or lying down, and she can be left exhausted by tasks and activities that many people take for granted.
Hannah studies Level 3 Music Technology at Coleg Llandrillo’s Rhos-on-Sea campus, and as her final major project organised ‘A Night to Remember’ at Conwy Comrades Sports & Social Club.
She raised £1,056 for PoTS UK from ticket sales, a raffle and donations received via her GoFundMe page.
Hannah said: "The night was a big success, and I'm so grateful to everybody who bought tickets and donated to a charity that's very important to me.
"I'd also like to thank the venue and all the acts and volunteers who gave up their time to help PoTS UK, which does fantastic work to help people like myself with the condition.”
As well as Hannah herself, also on the bill in Conwy were local bands Noisewave, G-String and Highway 88, while the night was hosted by drag performer Ivory Glam.
Hannah added: "All the feedback I’ve had since the concert has been amazing, and people are asking if I will be holding another event because they enjoyed it so much.
"PoTS is a condition that very few people know about, so I wanted to raise awareness for the charity, but to be able to donate £1,056 as well is brilliant. I want to keep raising awareness and help other people who have PoTS or maybe who don’t know they have it.”
Hannah discovered her talent for music after she had to give up her favourite sports as a youngster.
Six years later, she has written and produced many of her own songs and regularly performs them - including her latest track Dream to Forget, which charted on iTunes after she recorded it for the Coleg Llandrillo album High Society.
