New study and work partnership launched between Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor and the Urdd

A unique work training package is being launched, with students on the Foundation Degree in Outdoor Recreation having the opportunity to apply for the Glanllyn training scheme alongside their degree studies.

This is a wonderful opportunity for students to complete their academic studies with practical skills training at the Glanllyn Outdoor Centre and gain further outdoor qualifications and valuable work skills.

Sion Lloyd from Glanllyn said:

"What we would like to offer, through the college, to those students who are genuinely interested in the outdoors, is the opportunity to fill their week with two days a week earning a salary and experience at Glan-llyn Urdd Camp as a natural extension of the degree course.“

Through developing training and qualifications in the outdoors, students will gain valuable experiences, as well as an opportunity to put their theory work studied on the degree into a practical setting. Students will start as Trainee Outdoor Instructors at the Centre.”

Eifion Owen, Programme Manager for the Outdoor Degree course in Dolgellau, said:

"We very much welcome this initiative as it allows Foundation Degree learners to have relevant employment with their degree. This will benefit the learning experience and allow the Urdd to employ motivated and talented individuals."
