Students Organise Travel & Tourism Careers Conference
Coleg Llandrillo’s Travel & Tourism students recently organised a careers conference, which included seminars, showcase areas, interactive stands and workshops from a wide range of renowned travel and tourism organisations...all under stringent COVID-19 controls.
The Level 3 students, based at the college’s Rhos-on-Sea campus, spent months preparing, promoting, and marketing the dynamic event. Attendees got the chance to glean information on careers’ options from industry insiders, as well as finding out about work experience opportunities..
The event kicked-off with a student presentation, which included an address by the college principal Lawrence Wood, followed by an opportunity for the delegates to tour the Travel & Tourism facilities. The employers were also invited to stay for a meal which was prepared and served by Level 2 Hospitality students.
The organising students managed to attract representatives from a wide range of Tourism, Hospitality and Events businesses: Adventure Parc Snowdonia, Hilton Garden Inn and Spa, Always Aim High Events, Alpine Coaches, Conwy County Borough Council, Venue Cymru, Welsh Mountain Zoo, The White House, Rhuallt, Snowdonia National Park and Great Orme Mines.
The purpose of the event was to inform students who are interested in entering the industry about the careers opportunities available, and the skills and qualifications required.
One student commented: “The event was a fantastic opportunity for students to interact with local employers and for us to have a better insight of potential careers closer to home. It allowed me to gain more knowledge about the events industry across North Wales."
Tutor Caroline Lewis said: “The tourism employment event was a great success. The students worked extremely hard in creating and organising all aspects, which has not only allowed them to gain an insight into the events industry, but also gave them strong links with local tourism employers.
“We as a department try to give our students the opportunity to interact with a range of sectors within the tourism industry, and feel that it is extremely important to open their eyes to the career opportunities that are available to them on their doorstep.
“The event allowed students and employers from across North Wales to meet and interact, and we hope that following the success of this event we will be able to continue to build on these relationships, showcasing how employable the Coleg Llandrillo Tourism students are.”
