Ex-Head of Design on Lego Video Games Quizzed by College Students
The former Head of Design of a major games company who worked on multi-award-winning LEGO video games for more than 20 years, was recently grilled by Games Development students during a Q&A session at Coleg Llandrillo.
Arthur Parsons - who stunned the gaming industry in 2021 when he left TT Games to start his own business after more than two decades with the company - fielded questions from dozens of students at the Rhos-on-Sea campus on a wide range of topics: from his plans for the future, through career opportunities within the gaming industry, to specific advice on game design.
The BAFTA-award-winning LEGO video games are usually based around different LEGO film franchises and follow the stories of the related movies.
Arthur - who now has his own studio called 10:10 games where he is also the design director - gave a talk on his career to date, covering 25 years in the gaming industry. He also spoke about what he does on a day-to-day basis, the current games in development, interview techniques, an overview of the current industry, as well as providing the students with insider tips.
Arthur said: “I was delighted to be able to visit the students at Coleg Llandrillo. They asked a range of probing questions and I was delighted with both their enthusiasm and breadth of knowledge. I was impressed with the college’s facilities and also the Games Development course structure.”
Coleg Llandrillo Games Development tutor Rob Griffiths - who used to work under Arthur at TT Games - said: “This was an extremely valuable visit for our Games Development students. It was a fantastic opportunity to be able to see how the industry works from an insider’s point of view. A very informative talk, it was great to hear from a giant of the industry who has now left to start his own business. His guidance and feedback on portfolio will be extremely useful to our learners."
Following the release of Lego Star Wars: The Video Game, Giant merged with Traveller's Tales to form TT Games. Since then, TT Games – which is now a part of global entertainment giant Warner Bros - has developed numerous hit LEGO videogame franchises with cherished brands including Batman, Harry Potter, Marvel Super Heroes and Indiana Jones, as well as popular titles such as LEGO Marvel’s Avengers, LEGO Lord of the Rings, LEGO Jurassic World, LEGO Dimensions, LEGO Worlds and many, many more.
