Young People Try Their Hand at Forestry and Countryside Management Activities
Coleg Glynllifon, in partnership with the Royal Forestry Society, hosted over 60 young people at its campus recently, to showcase the exciting sector of Forestry and Countryside Management.
A range of activities were held for the secondary school children, in a bid to inspire them to consider a career within the industry. From visiting the on-site sawmill and using the forestry simulator, to getting to know trees and the various species, the young people were given a real insight into the sector.
Major employers in the industry, such as Bangor University and the Countryside Council for Wales were also on hand to discuss job opportunities with the young people.
Jeff Rowland Hughes, Head of Forestry and Countryside Management at Coleg Glynllifon, said,
"We are very grateful to the Royal Forestry Society for organising the day here at Coleg Glynllifon. The school pupils got to learn more about the exciting and growing sector, which is also extremely important to the Welsh economy and Welsh Government’s calls to respond to climate change”
He added
“The fun-filled day was an opportunity for pupils to learn more about our courses on offer, and the opportunities available to them when studying those subjects”
